WWE 2K24

WWE 2K24 is a game that wrestling fans eagerly await each year, just like FIFA fans anticipate their release. This series is a staple in sports gaming, always trying to innovate. However, the 2020 edition had many issues and was poorly received.

The developers decided to take a break for a year, reworking their approach and improving the game. Now with WWE 2K24, does it build a new legacy, or is it another flawed release? Let’s find out in our review!

WWE 2K24 Gameplay

Content and Game Modes

WWE 2K24 features a massive roster of nearly 200 wrestlers, including new faces, legends, and alternate versions of well-known wrestlers.

It keeps the classic modes fans love, while introducing a variety of new match types, which are likely to become a staple in future releases.

WWE 2K24 Match Types

New match types include Ambulance Matches, where players must put their opponents in an ambulance, and Casket Matches, where the goal is to lock opponents in a casket. There’s also the Special Guest Referee Match, where a player acts as the referee, adding drama and unexpected turns. These and other new types add variety and excitement.

To celebrate 40 years of WrestleMania, WWE 2K24 introduces “2K Showcase of the Immortals.” This mode lets players relive and even change the outcomes of iconic matches, like Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant at WrestleMania 3 or Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 25. However, the mode sometimes struggles to recreate historical moments exactly.

WWE 2K24 Showcase Mode

The MyRise mode returns with new storylines for male and female wrestlers, focusing on building your wrestler’s career. While engaging, the stories can feel repetitive, reducing long-term excitement.

In MyGM mode, WWE 2K24 adds new managers, match types, and the ability to trade wrestlers with other GMs. These additions enhance the mode, though some elements remain simplistic.

Finally, the Universe mode lets players control the entire WWE or focus on a single wrestler’s career. While there are new features, major changes are minimal, which may disappoint longtime fans of this mode.

Gameplay

WWE 2K24’s gameplay builds on the foundation of WWE 2K23. The combat system remains fast, balanced, and fun, offering a mix of arcade-style mechanics and realism.

WWE 2K24 Gameplay Features

A highlight is the Super Finishers system, which allows players to store up to three finishing moves for dramatic, match-ending moments. It adds strategy by letting players balance risk and reward.

Another exciting addition is the “Trading Blows” minigame. During certain matches, players must press on-screen buttons quickly to exchange punches with opponents. A mistake leaves the wrestler vulnerable, adding tension to the fight.

New animations, such as jumping from the ropes onto multiple opponents, and the ability to interact with nearly any object, bring back nostalgic gameplay elements from older wrestling games.

Graphics and Technical Performance

WWE 2K24 offers improved visuals compared to previous releases. The arenas and overall presentation look stunning. However, some issues persist, like unrealistic character hair and occasional clunky animations.

On the technical side, the game runs smoothly at 60 FPS on high settings with no noticeable performance issues, even on mid-range hardware like the GTX 1650 Ti.

Final Verdict

8.5/10

WWE 2K24 is a must-play for wrestling fans. With a large roster, new match types, and polished gameplay, it delivers excitement and fun. While it doesn’t revolutionize the series, it satisfies longtime fans and builds on its strengths.
