Game Review
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
Recently, EA has been making a comeback with single-player story-driven games.
After focusing heavily on online and live-service games, it seems EA is back on track, delivering the games we love.
They started the year strong with the *Dead Space* remake.
A single-player game offering solid gameplay hours with no extra purchases—no season pass, no in-game currencies.
And now, we have *Star Wars Jedi: Survivor*, the sequel to *Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order*, which released in 2019 and was a major success.
Developed by Respawn Entertainment, known for *Titanfall* and *Apex Legends*, has the studio outdone itself with this new *Star Wars* game?
After 30 hours of gameplay, here’s our review of *Star Wars Jedi: Survivor*.
If you’ve been following the reviews, you probably know the game is great but suffers from serious technical issues.
So, let me tell you why the game is great and why I think it deserves to be a Game of the Year contender.
And yes, we’ll also talk about its technical performance, as usual.
Story
The story begins 5 years after the events of *Fallen Order*.
Cal is captured on Coruscant and being handed over to the Empire. However, it’s revealed to be part of a plan to steal critical information about the Empire.
Cal has parted ways with his old crew and now works with Saw Gerrera to fight the Empire.
However, he begins questioning whether his efforts are making any difference, as the Empire continues to grow stronger.
Things change when he discovers a hidden planet that only ancient Jedi reached 200 years ago. This planet might be a safe haven for those escaping the Empire’s tyranny.
The story lasts about 20 hours if you stick to the main content on medium difficulty.
The story features emotional moments, unexpected twists, and well-written characters, both old (Cere, Merrin) and new (Bode).
Bode, in particular, is a standout character and a highlight of the *Star Wars* universe.
The villains are also well-developed, with backstories and motives that make the boss fights more meaningful.
Gameplay
The gameplay is highly addictive with 5 distinct lightsaber stances: single blade, double blade, dual-wield, crossguard (heavy), and saber-blaster combo.
Each stance feels unique and adds variety to combat.
The Force abilities have been expanded, including new moves like controlling enemies and creating strategies during combat.
Skill trees for combat, survival, and Force powers allow for customization, adding depth to progression.
Boss battles are challenging and well-designed, keeping players on their toes with varied mechanics.
World & Exploration
The game features a large Metroidvania-style world with 5 planets to explore.
Side quests, collectibles, and environmental puzzles enhance the exploration experience.
Graphics & Sound
The graphics are stunning, showcasing beautiful cinematic visuals.
The sound design, from lightsaber effects to the orchestral soundtrack, adds to the immersive experience.
Technical Performance
The game suffers from performance issues across all platforms, including frame rate drops and crashes, especially on PC.
Hopefully, updates will address these issues soon.
