Minecraft has often been mocked as a “kids’ game” or “just a block game.” However, that perception began to change a few years ago when Mojang, the creators of Minecraft, introduced spin-offs like episodic story games and Minecraft Dungeons. The latest addition is Minecraft Legends.
Story
Minecraft has never been known for its storytelling. The original game lets players create their own adventures in a survival world. However, Minecraft Legends introduces a decent narrative.
The game takes place in a parallel Minecraft universe, a peaceful world where even zombies are friendly—one scene shows a zombie giving a flower to a villager.
However, the Nether, known as the dark, evil world, still exists. One day, the creatures from the Nether decide to invade, disrupting the peace by sending Piglins—small sword-wielding pigs—through Nether portals.
In this world, the hero (you) is called upon by wise beings to save their land from the Piglin invasion. They entrust you with the mission because they are too peaceful to fight.
That’s the essence of the story, from starting the game to its conclusion. The narrative isn’t a major focus, as Minecraft Legends is primarily a strategy game.
Gameplay
Minecraft Legends is a mix of strategy, action, and adventure. After completing the tutorial, you’ll set out into the world to defeat the Piglins and save the land.
The game focuses on two main activities: attacking Piglin camps and defending villages. Initially, attacking camps feels exciting, but it becomes repetitive over time.
When attacking camps, you’ll feel like leading an army in ancient battles. You’ll build structures to summon various troops, each with unique abilities, and gather resources to support your strategy.
Each camp requires a different approach, adding tactical variety. For example, some camps spawn endless enemies through smaller portals, which must be destroyed first to protect your army.
Another key activity is defending villages. You can build towers, walls, and gates to protect villages even when you’re not there. These defenses help you secure vital resources like wood and stone to strengthen your army.
While the building mechanics are enjoyable, the lack of defensive variety can feel limiting compared to the enemy’s advanced structures. Exploring the world, though expansive, feels empty, with few engaging activities to discover.
Multiplayer
The game also offers multiplayer, where players gather resources, build armies, and attack each other’s villages. While the concept is exciting, finding players can be challenging due to its small player base, even on Game Pass.
Graphics and Performance
Minecraft Legends features simple graphics that most systems can handle. Visual effects like rain, fire, and explosions are well done, and the cartoon-style cutscenes are enjoyable.
Arabic Localization
While the game includes Arabic text, the translation quality is poor, with literal translations and formatting errors, making it difficult to follow in some places.
