Kingdom Come: Deliverance II Review

Have you ever imagined living in the Middle Ages with all its details? Kingdom Come: Deliverance II will take you on an immersive journey into a world full of challenges, wars, and political intrigues. The game is developed by Warhorse Studios and published by Deep Silver, and it’s so realistic that you’ll feel like you’re part of history.
But the question here is, will this realism make the experience better, or could it become a burden that makes you feel bored? Will you enjoy every moment, or could the many details be a double-edged sword?
The Story
The game continues Henry’s journey after the events of the first part, but the situation has become much more dangerous and complex. Bohemia is in chaos, and the conflicts among the nobles have reached critical levels, with the threat of Sigismund still looming in the background. Henry, who was once a simple blacksmith, is now entangled in the world of politics, wars, and conspiracies that could change the fate of the entire kingdom.
After what happened before, Henry moves with Hans Capon on a diplomatic mission, but as usual, nothing goes as smoothly as planned. The journey takes an unexpected turn due to a mysterious attack, and Henry finds himself in a tough spot, needing to use all the experience he has gained to get out of it.
While trying to understand what’s happening, Henry begins to discover that there is a larger political game at play, much bigger than just battles and bandits. Some people are trying to turn the situation in their favor, and betrayal could happen at any moment. Over time, Henry starts meeting new characters, some of whom will help him, while others have unclear intentions.
Gameplay
Kingdom Come: Deliverance II offers an immersive gameplay experience that takes you back to the Middle Ages with precise details that make you feel like you’re living inside history.
The combat system has been completely redesigned, becoming more dynamic and interactive. Instead of just exchanging blows, you now need to think about every move before making it. You can choose your playstyle; whether you prefer direct confrontations as a skilled swordsman, peaceful and diplomatic solutions through dialogue, or even stealth as a spy carrying out missions from the shadows. This variety makes every battle unique and forces you to adjust your strategy according to the situation.
In the new installment, alongside traditional weapons like swords and spears, primitive firearms have been added. This addition not only expands combat styles but also makes the player pay attention to new details, such as the need to wear a helmet for protection while using a gun. Firearms introduce a new element to the game, requiring a deep understanding of mechanics and the impact of each weapon on the battlefield.
The character development system has become deeper, no longer limited to just collecting experience points but relying on a skill tree with six main branches. Whether you lean towards direct combat, stealth, or even crafting like blacksmithing and armor-making, you’ll find a unique path for yourself. Additionally, the alchemy system now requires more precision; you need to heat and mix ingredients carefully to create powerful potions that give you an edge in battles.
Enemy AI has significantly improved, making them smarter in dealing with you. For example, if you stay in a defensive stance for too long, they might flank you from multiple directions. In some cases, enemies work as a team, forcing you to constantly change your tactics.
The open world has become more dynamic, and your decisions directly affect relationships with characters and the story’s progression. Whether you choose to sneak to complete a mission without being noticed or engage in complex debates with a sophisticated persuasion system, every action has consequences that can change the course of events.
One of the things that caught my attention is the dynamic event system. Your decisions are not just fleeting choices but create a new reality in the game. For example, if you help a certain group, you might suddenly become a target for their enemies, or if you kill a specific leader, it could lead to the collapse of an entire organization. Even side quests are affected by time; if you delay, you might find the situation has completely changed.
The same applies to the crime system. The game has become smarter in handling crimes, and non-playable characters now notice your actions. If you do something suspicious, someone might report you, and then you’ll have choices like paying a fine, lying your way out, or even escaping. But if you keep repeating the same mistakes, the penalties will become harsher.
Graphics and Performance
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has done an excellent job with its graphics, making you feel like you’re truly living in the Middle Ages. The details in the open world are stunning, from stone houses to forests and natural landscapes, and even the characters’ features are meticulously crafted.
The game world, representing 15th-century Bohemia, is considered one of the most exciting and well-crafted in game design. Despite its large size, the content is rich and meaningful, with no filler elements. The level of interaction is high, and every decision and skill affects the gameplay experience, offering a level of role-playing freedom that surpasses other games like Red Dead Redemption 2 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
Regarding performance on the PS5, the game offers two graphics modes: Performance Mode, which runs at 1080p resolution and 60 frames per second, with upscaling to 1440p using FSR technology; and Fidelity Mode, which offers 1440p resolution and 30 frames per second, with upscaling to 4K using FSR.
In Performance Mode, you’ll notice smooth movement thanks to the 60 frames per second, but you might see a slight drop in image sharpness due to the lower resolution. In some scenes, like the opening attack, there might be a slight drop in frame rate, but overall, the performance is stable. On the other hand, Fidelity Mode offers a clearer image thanks to the higher resolution, but at a lower frame rate.
Final Rating
