Did you know that Borderlands was originally supposed to have graphics similar to Gears of War?
#Quick_Fact
The game Borderlands was initially designed with realistic graphics, inspired by Gears of War. However, when the game was 75% complete, the developers realized it would be directly compared to the hugely popular Fallout 3 at the time. This put them in a tough spot as they knew they couldn’t compete with the Fallout series.
Desperate for a solution, they decided to completely change the game’s art style to a cell-shaded look. This change caused delays, pushing the release from 2008 to 2009. Despite the setback, the new artistic direction perfectly suited the game and led to a massive success far beyond the developers’ expectations. Borderlands went on to become a highly successful series.
