10 Underrated PlayStation 4 Exclusives
The PlayStation 4 is known for its outstanding library of exclusive games, from first-party hits like Uncharted and God of War to third-party gems like Persona 5 and Street Fighter 5. It even had timed exclusives like Hellblade and NieR: Automata. But some exclusives never got the recognition they deserved. This article highlights 10 of these hidden gems based on personal experience, featuring games I believe deserve more attention.
The Order: 1886
Released early in the PS4’s lifecycle, The Order: 1886 by Ready at Dawn remains one of the most visually stunning games on the console. Despite its short length and cinematic approach, its Victorian-era setting and engaging story make it a must-play. The gameplay offers satisfying third-person shooting mechanics, and the weapon designs stand out. The game tells the story of Galahad, a knight framed for treason, unraveling the mysteries of a werewolf-infested London.
Gravity Rush 2
The sequel to Gravity Rush expanded on the unique gravity-defying mechanics of the original. Its cel-shaded art style and creative gameplay set it apart from other games. You control Kat as she manipulates gravity to explore a beautiful open world. Unfortunately, the game didn’t get the recognition it deserved, even though it offered a polished experience exclusively for the PS4.
Nioh 2
Nioh 2 improved upon its predecessor in every way, offering a more refined action RPG experience. It introduced deeper customization, engaging combat, and a rich world inspired by Japanese folklore. Despite its quality, it struggled to stand out in 2020, a year filled with major releases like Ghost of Tsushima and Final Fantasy VII Remake.
Heavy Rain (Remastered)
This narrative-driven thriller remains a masterpiece of interactive storytelling. The PS4 remaster offers enhanced visuals and smoother gameplay. The story follows four characters investigating the Origami Killer, blending intense drama with meaningful choices that lead to multiple endings.
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
This standalone expansion of Uncharted 4 delivered a tighter, more focused narrative. Featuring Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross as protagonists, the game packs engaging puzzles, action-packed sequences, and stunning visuals into a concise 8-hour adventure.
Persona 5
Often dismissed as “just an anime game,” Persona 5 is a deep, stylish RPG with over 100 hours of content. Its turn-based combat and social simulation elements are perfectly balanced, making it one of the most critically acclaimed PS4 exclusives.
Bloodborne
Developed by the creators of Dark Souls, Bloodborne is a fast-paced action RPG set in a hauntingly beautiful Victorian world. With its unique combat mechanics and immersive atmosphere, it stands out as one of the PS4’s greatest exclusives.
Driveclub
Driveclub showcased incredible visuals and dynamic weather effects, making it one of the most visually impressive racing games. Despite a rocky launch, it remains a hidden gem for racing fans.
God of War III Remastered
This remaster brought the epic conclusion to Kratos’ original trilogy to the PS4. Known for its intense combat, massive boss fights, and stunning visuals, it’s an unforgettable hack-and-slash experience.
Death Stranding
Hideo Kojima’s ambitious title offers a unique gameplay experience centered around delivering supplies across a desolate world. With its innovative multiplayer elements and thought-provoking story, it’s a genre-defining game that deserves a second look.
